4. On the add an item page, there is a secondary menu across the top. In the "Dublin Core" tab, fill out as many metadata fields as is necessary. Remember, metadata is important for attribution and provenance. For a detailed breakdown of each metadata field, check the Omeka Classic User Manual section on "Working with Dublin Core" here.

5. In the "Item Type Metadata" tab, select one of the options form the drop down menu. When you select and item, help text will appear below the drop down menu to help clarify that specific item. Additional metadata textboxes may also appear.

6. In the "Files" tab, you can upload a file or files from your local machine.

7. In the "Tags" tab, you can add tags to the file. These can be used for filtering and searching purposes.

8. On any of the tabs for the "Add an Item" page, you can select to make the item "Public" or "Featured" and can add it to a Collection as well. Every item defaults to private and must be consciously selected and made public.

10. Finally, click the "Add Item" button to officially add the item to your Omeka site. It is important to note that all the work you have done to this point will not be saved unless you add the item.

11. Once you add the item, you will be redirected to the "Browse Items" page and your item will now be listed.
