Omeka

Omeka Classic is a web publishing platform and requires a web hosting service in order to be accessible on the World Wide Web. A web hosting service is a business that provides the necessary technologies and services needed to make a website available on the Internet. The website is hosted or stored on a server, which is a special computer used solely for sharing content online. When an individual navigates to your Omeka website using a unique URL, their computer connects with your web hosting server which then delivers the website or webpage to their computer. Each web hosting service is different in how they organize their backend and what additional tools and services they offer.

The process of installing Omeka Classic can vary depending on the web hosting service. Hosting platforms that use the Installatron service should offer one-click installation of Omeka Classic. For hosting platforms that don't use Installatron, the Omeka Classic User Manual has a section titled " System Requirements" that outlines the server requirements necessary for Omeka Classic to function properly and another section titled  "7 Easy Steps for Installing with LAMP server setup" which details the process of installing and configuring the Omeka Classic files. Additionally, the User Manual has a section containing suggestions on web hosting services. It can be found under the "Hosting Suggestions" heading.

The Office of Digital Research and Publishing (ODRP), in collaboration with Library Data And Discovery Solutions (LDADS), provides University students, faculty, and staff with access to a web hosting platform to create digital project, including Omeka Classic websites. This web hosting service is located at digitalresearch.bsu.edu. ODRP and LDADS provide technical and administrative support for digital projects hosted on our service.
