Professional Organizations for Music Educators

There are several major international, national, and regional organizations devoted to the practice, research, and advocacy of music education. Members of these societies include music educators and future music educators just like you, and they welcome your involvement. These societies host conferences, grant financial assistance, and issue journal publications. They also advocate for change at the federal, state, and local levels. Foremost among these organizations, the National Association for Music Education, or NAfME, includes several specialized societies and councils and is federated with local associations in all fifty U.S. states such as the Indiana Music Education Association. Becoming involved in one or more of these societies can be an important step in your career as you meet colleagues and make an impact beyond your own classroom.
