The University Libraries have many books about writing, including some specifically about writing fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or screenplays. The University Libraries have current subscriptions to many literary magazines and journals, as well as back issues of those and others. Some are available in electronic format, and others in print. Still other publications are available for free at their web sites.

The University Libraries' electronic databases are large collections of articles paired with helpful search tools. Some of our databases include poems and prose, others feature literary criticism, and some have both. Try our recommended databases for creative writers for your research. 

Looking for just the right word or phrase? The University Libraries' have a wealth of reference resources in print and online, including general and specialized dictionaries of interest to creative writers. Other reference resources include thesauruses and works of literary biography. 

Find recordings of contemporary or historical authors and poets reading their own work, and sometimes the work of other Classical or seminal writers.
