This guide will help you find library resources useful for the study of Creative Writing.

Books

The University Libraries have many books about writing, including some specifically about writing fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or screenplays. The Libraries also have books about the study and teaching of creative writing. Browse lists of books selected by faculty and librarians, or search for books in OneSearch. 

Literary magazines

The University Libraries have current subscriptions to many literary magazines and journals, as well as back issues of those and others. Some are available in electronic format, and others in print. Still other publications are available for free at their web sites. 

Publishing and contests

Find writing contests and places to potentially publish your work. This pages lists literary magazines and journals, including some that specialize in publishing undergraduate authors. Contest and links to similar lists at other institutions and websites are also included. 

Literary citizenship

Get connected to communities of writers and find avenues to refine your craft. Discover organizations for writers, writing workshops, and residency opportunities. 

Databases

The University Libraries' electronic databases are large collections of articles paired with helpful search tools. Some of our databases include poems and prose, others feature literary criticism, and some have both. Try our recommended databases for creative writers for your research. 

Reference resources

Looking for just the right word or phrase? The University Libraries' have a wealth of reference resources in print and online, including general and specialized dictionaries of interest to creative writers. Other reference resources include thesauruses and works of literary biography. 

Audio Recordings

Find recordings of contemporary or historical authors and poets reading their own work, and sometimes the work of other Classical or seminal writers.
