OneSearch is Ball State University Libraries' discovery service, which allows you to find articles, books, videos, and more from many library databases. It can be useful for finding books, as long as you narrow your search to items in the Library Catalog.

Research tips for using OneSearch to search for books:

  • After your initial search, narrow your results down by selecting "Library Catalog" in the Refine Your Search column to the left
  • You may also want to narrow by content type and publication date
  • Find eBooks instead by choosing "Full Text Online" under Refine Your Search


WorldCat is the collected catalog of materials (mostly books) owned by over 43,000 libraries worldwide.

WorldCat Search Tips:

  • You can limit your search to a specific type or format.  Know that WorldCat contains mostly books.
  • Items owned by Ball State University Libraries are noted in WorldCat.  Use OneSearch to find the call number to use to find the book at Ball State.
  • Items not owned by Ball State University Libraries can be requested through our interlibrary loan service.  Click on the link in WorldCat to request an item through this service.  Books will be mailed to Bracken Library at Ball State University and must be returned there.
