ORCID IDs are unique, persistent identifiers used to identify authors and researchers, and provide a public listing of their scholarly works. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a non-profit organization, and there are no fees for individual accounts. These identifiers are designed to identify researchers in the same way that DOIs identify articles and other publications. Just as a DOI record will point to a resource even if the URL has changed, researchers who keep their ORCID accounts current will keep a clear record of their contributions, even as names and affiliations change over the years.
Journals publishing with the University Libraries offer ORCID integration. This integration allows journals to:
Add published articles to ORCID records
Authors with authenticated ORCID IDs can add their published DOIs to their ORCID records.
For each DOI:
After allowing this access, works published with an authenticated ORCID ID will display in a user's record, with a note "Source: Crossref". Crossref is the registry the Libraries uses to register article DOIs.
