Use Other Academic Libraries of Indiana

Ball State students may also use other Indiana libraries in ALI, the Academic Libraries of Indiana, such as the IUPUI Library, to check out materials. To use an ALI library:

  1. Obtain an ALI Borrower's Card from Bracken Library.
     
  2. Take your ALI Borrower's Card, your Ball State ID, and a photo ID with current address when you visit participating ALI Libraries.

Searching Other Library Catalogs

With an ALI card, you have access to other academic libraries in Indiana (see above). Search other library catalogs using the same keywords and subject headings you would use to search CardCat.

Indianapolis Public Library Catalog
You must have an Indianapolis Public Library card to check out books. This library system does not participate in ALI.

You can also search WorldCat, which combines 1000s of library catalogs.

  • Use the Libraries Worldwide links to see which libraries have a copy.
  • An icon indicates if the Ball State University Libraries has a copy of the book.

Renewing Books Checked Out From Other Libraries

Renewal policies at each library vary, but the information can usually be found on their library websites. Here are contacts for requesting renewals at some of the libraries in Indianapolis:

IUPUI University Library
(Includes the Herron Art Library)

  • Stop by the Library Information Desk in person with your library card.
  • Use the University Library Online Renewal Form.
  • Call the library during open hours:  317-274--0472.
  • Email your patron number and the item numbers to renewal@iupui.edu.

Indianapolis Public Library

  • Go to the My Account section of the library catalog to renew checked out items.
  • Note:  you must have an Indianapolis Public Library card in order to check out materials. This library is not a member of ALI (Academic Libraries of Indiana).

Butler University Libraries

  • Stop by the Library Information Desk in person with your ALI card.
  • Call the library during open hours:  317-940-9227.

University of Indianapolis

  • Stop by the Library Information Desk in person with your ALI card.
  • Call the library during open hours:  317-788-3268.
