The goal of the machine wisdom project is to develop a framework for defining and enhancing practical wisdom in human-machine interactions. The notion of practical wisdom highlights both (1) the current limitations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems (AI/ML) and (2) the dangers entailed when humans must make real-time adjustments to AI/ML systems with only partial understanding of how they work. The Machine Wisdom Project envisages strategies for mitigating both (1) and (2) that recognize lack of self-awareness in current and foreseeable AI/ML technologies, and the need to promote designs that make those limitations apparent.

John was a legendary computer scientist at Stanford University who developed time-sharing, invented LISP, and founded the field of Artificial Intelligence.

The mission of HAI is to advance AI research, education, policy and practice to improve the human condition. Led by faculty from multiple departments across Stanford, research focuses on developing AI technologies inspired by human intelligence; studying, forecasting and guiding the human and societal impact of AI; and designing and creating AI applications that augment human capabilities. Through the education work of the institute, students and leaders at all stages gain a range of AI fundamentals and perspectives. At the same time, the policy work of HAI fosters regional and national discussions that lead to direct legislative impact.

RAISE-Health is a joint initiative between Stanford Medicine and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) to guide the responsible use of AI across biomedical research, education, and patient care.

Artificial intelligence is enabling the development of invaluable services and taking part in more and more aspects of our lives. Built from data, hardware and connectivity, AI allows machines to mimic human intelligence such as perception, problem-solving, linguistic interaction or creativity. These technologies contribute to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, these rapid changes raise major issues. UNESCO addresses these matters, from ethics of AI, AI in education, gender equality, to capacity building for governments and judiciary.

Form the American Libraries Association: Provides a forum for researching potential applications of Machine and Deep Learning in library science, including discussions, publications, and outreach to the wider Library community. Its goal is to educate librarians on uses of the complex techniques of machine learning and to provide a space for critically thinking both about new applications, and about the ethical and social impact of these technologies, as the field rapidly expands in the coming decade.

Christopher Olah works on reverse engineering artificial neural networks into human understandable algorithms. He's one of the co-founders of Anthropic, an AI lab focused on the safety of large models. Previously, he led interpretability research at OpenAI, worked at Google Brain, and co-founded Distill, a scientific journal focused on outstanding communication.

CRAFT resources are the product of iterative co-design between Stanford University students and personnel with practicing high school teachers from across the United States from multiple subject areas.

An open access publishing platform that challenged traditional publication practices by remaining online where graphs and content could be interactive in nature. "Many researchers want to do work that is not easily contained within a PDF, but can’t get the support they need to pursue it. We, as the research community, are failing them by not treating these wonderful, non-traditional research artifacts as “real” academic contributions."

This is a group for educators in Higher Ed to discuss ideas around using (or not using) AI writing programs in writing courses. We are intended to be a positive learning community, not a group to complain about AI usage.
We welcome discussions about AI use in the classroom, how to structure assignments to make the best use of writing and critical thinking skills, classroom and institutional policies surrounding AI use, and other topics in the same spirit as these.
