Research Tools for Literature Reviews in Education

This guide accompanies the workshop of the same name!

Google Scholar is a search tool for academic research.

  • Searches university repositories, publishers websites, and "scholarly websites"
  • Can be useful for identifing freely available articles and other scholarly information online, including content from open access journals.
  • While most search results tend to be scholarly, Google has a looser definition of what counts as scholarly than subscription-based library databases.
  • Carefully evaluate the articles you find before including them in your research
  • Remember that interlibrary loan is always an option for accessing articles behind paywalls!
