Scholarly Journals in Music

Peer-Reviewed journals in the various fields of music

Interlibrary Loan Request via MultiLink

MultiLink is Ball State's tool for connecting indexing services to the articles being indexed by databases such as RILM or Music Index.  There are three possible results:

  • The article is available full-text through one or more subscriptions
  • The journal is available only in paper, searchable via OneSearch.  You'll find the journal on the New Journals shelf, the Second Floor, or in the Music Collection (OneSearch will indicate which place)
  • Ball State has no subscription to the journal, online or in print.  Interlibrary Loan is your only option.

After determining that the article is not available from Ball State Libraries, click on "Interlibrary Loan / ILLiad"  After you've logged in to the ILLiad system, MultiLink fills out the request (except your deadline and willingness to pay shipping cost, which you have to indicate):

After the article is received by the Interlibrary Loan office they will notify you by e-mail that it is available.  Usually it will be available in electronic (.pdf) format in your Interlibrary Loan account.

Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Form Yourself

When you have a citation for an article (for example, one referenced in another article's bibliography), and Ball State does not own the journal issue, you can go directly to the Interlibrary Loan home page and fill out the request.  After logging in, select Journal Article under "New Request."

After the article is received by the Interlibrary Loan office they will notifiy you by e-mail that it is available.  Usually it will be available in electronic (.pdf) format in your Interlibrary Loan account.
