Citation chaining is the practice of looking for articles that cited or were cited by an article you have found. This is especially useful if you would like to base your research on high impact, frequently cited articles, or if you have found an older article and would like to find more recent ones on the same topic.
Web of Science has robust citation chaining features; for any article in the database, you can determine how many other articles in Web of Science cited it, and how many articles in Web of Science were cited by it.
