Spies of Mississippi by Dawn Porter
In the spring of 1964, the civil rights community was gearing up for Mississippi Freedom Summer, during which student activists and freedom workers registered Black people to vote. A secret, state-funded spy agency, the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission, employed Black operatives to infiltrate the movement, rooting out its future plans, identifying its leaders, and tripping up its foot soldiers. Includes archival film footage and stills, and interviews with activists, historians, and former politicians.
