Resources for research and listening for folk and popular music from around the world

Welcome to the International Music Research Guide! This guide introduces resources on musical styles from around the world, including traditional and modern idioms. First visit the General Resources page to find resources like The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, titles in the Global Music Series, Global Jukebox, print reference works, and recommended databases. Then begin exploring pages for specific continents and regions like Africa, China, Japan and Korea, Southeast Asia, The Indian Subcontinent, The Middle East, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australia and the Pacific. An additional page explores Non-Western Instruments, including information on instruments held by Education, Music and Media and available for you to borrow. Know of a resource not included in this guide? Feel free to email the Music Librarian and they will add it. Or, suggest an item for purchase, if it is a resource not currently owned by University Libraries.
